Don Bosco College Golaghat Celebrates Constitution Day with Seminar, Pledge, and Patriotic Performances

Faculty members and students of Don Bosco College Golaghat in Upper Assam marked 75th anniversary of the adoption of Indian Constitution with seminar, pledge taking and medley of patriotic songs on 26th November 2024. Faculty members and students of Don Bosco College Golaghat, the second oldest Salesian Educational Centre in Assam started in 1941 celebrated the constitution in the presence of Fr. George Thadathil sdb, Coordinator of Salesian Higher Education Global Network, Rome, Italy and Vice-Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University and former principal of Don Bosco College Golaghat Dr. Fr. Jose Palely sdb.

“The event was a significant occasion aimed at fostering awareness and appreciation of constitutional values among students and faculty members,” says Principal of the college, Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss. The principal called on both students and faculty members, “to embrace their fundamental duties as citizens and to unite as brothers and sisters in upholding the values enshrined in the Constitution.” The keynote speaker at the event was Fr. Prof. George Thadathil sdb, who emphasized the importance of constitutional values and shared inspiring anecdotes from the life of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who played a vital role in drafting the Constitution. Vice-Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University and former principal of Don Bosco College Golaghat Dr. Fr. Jose Palely encouraged students to imbibe constitutional values and fulfill their duties as responsible citizens in building a prosperous India.             To add a patriotic flair to the celebration, students from B.A. 3rd Semester performed a stirring patriotic song led by Wangli Lowang and his team. Additionally, a vibrant dance performance by Ansila Dung Dung and her team captivated the audience. The program ended on a high note with everyone singing the National Anthem. Among the invited guests, sisters, salesians, Rev. Fr. Kamil Horo, SDB, Rector; Fr. Lokho Alayee, SDB, Vice Principal and others witnessed the celebration. The college established in 2015 is situated in the tea and tribal area of Golaghat district famous for the world heritage Kaziranga National Park and Wild Life sactuary. Some 250 students and faculty members participated in the event. The program hosted by Political Science department began with an introductory speech by Tingdan Wangsu, a B.A. 3rd semester student who provided an insightful overview of the evolution of the Indian Constitution, setting the tone for the day's discussions. Dr. Amaladoss administered a pledge on the Preamble of the Constitution for faculty members and students, reinforcing their commitment to constitutional principles.  B.A.1st Semester student John Paul Kandulna from the Department of Political Science led the oath taking to uphold the fundamental rights and duties of citizens.
