Ten-Day Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) - 77 Successfully Concludes at Don Bosco College, Golaghat

Golaghat, Assam — The Ten-Day Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) - 77, held from August 18 to August 28, 2024, at Don Bosco College, Golaghat, was a resounding success, bringing together 400 NCC cadets and 200 college students from various educational institutions across Golaghat, Jorhat, and other districts of Assam. This mega event marked the first time Don Bosco College hosted such a significant NCC camp, with participants from diverse backgrounds joining to enhance their skills and knowledge under the guidance of experienced trainers and officers.

The camp was organized by the 74 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC under Jorhat Group, in collaboration with Don Bosco College. The opening day was highlighted by a Guard of Honour presented by the NCC cadets to the Group Commander of Jorhat Group, Brig. Ritesh Bhal, who was welcomed with great respect and enthusiasm. The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss, Principal of Don Bosco College, along with JCO, GCI, ANOs, CTOs, college staff, PI staff of the NCC Units, cadets, and Salesians.Throughout the camp, cadets were engaged in a variety of NCC-related activities, including drill, firing, map reading, and martial arts. To keep the cadets energized and active, games and other events were organized, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and physical fitness. A special highlight was the display of arms and ammunition by the 142 CRPF Battalion of Golaghat, which provided the cadets and college students with a hands-on understanding of the use of weapons in emergency situations.The camp also featured insightful guest lectures, including a session by Police Superintendent Ms. Mousumi Chakroborty of Golaghat, who addressed crimes against women and cyber-crimes in the digital age. She emphasized the importance of self-protection and discussed measures taken to combat crimes related to women.In addition, Mr. Shifu Nekibur Rahman from the International Shaolin and Kickboxing Association conducted a demonstration on martial arts, highlighting how cadets can become self-reliant in self-defense and maintain physical strength. The cadets also received training in fire fighting, mushroom farming, commercial plantation, tree plantation, and poultry farming. Experts from Don Bosco Tech Society of Golaghat Unit and doctors from Civil Hospital conducted guest lectures on livelihood and income-generating activities, as well as first aid.The camp concluded with a grand cultural program, a solemn social meal-sharing event, networking opportunities, and a valedictory function. The event also included a prize distribution ceremony, where cadets were recognized for their outstanding performances. Notably, U/O Ankiel Tirkey from Don Bosco College, Golaghat, received the first prize in drill commanding and firing.Lt. Col. A. Jaynata of 74 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss, Principal of Don Bosco College, and the college management for their invaluable support and meticulous arrangements, which contributed to the camp's grand success. In his address to the 600 young participants, staff, and trainers, Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss inspired them to commit to the betterment of society and emphasized the importance of becoming good citizens. He also commended CTO Arpita Dowarah of NCC Girls, CTO John Kisku of NCC Boys, and all the NCC cadets of Don Bosco College for their dedication and hard work under the leadership of Lt. Col. A. Jaynata.The camp concluded on a high note, with a strong sense of patriotism as the national anthem was sung, leaving a lasting impact on all who participated.
