Honorable Minister Shri Atul Bora Inaugurates College Week at Don Bosco College, Golaghat
Don Bosco College commenced its College Week 2025 with a spirited inaugural ceremony on February 3, featuring a blend of academic celebration, cultural performances, and motivational discourse.The event, graced by Shri Atul Bora, Honourable Cabinet Minister of Assam, witnessed a remarkable display of student discipline and institutional pride. Minister Bora, who was welcomed with a Guard of Honour, hoisted the college flag and delivered an inspiring address to students and faculty.
The highlight of the event was the presence of Chief Guest Shri Atul Bora, Honourable Cabinet Minister of Assam, who was warmly received by the college management and staff. His arrival set the stage for an inspiring celebration, bringing together distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and the wider Bosco family to honor education, culture, and sports. The ceremony began with a solemn invocation by Rev. Fr. Kamil Horo, SDB, Rector of the College, who prayed for wisdom and knowledge for all present. This was followed by an uplifting Welcome Speech from the Principal, Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss, who expressed his pride in inaugurating College Week 2025. He highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing skill development, critical reflection, and confidence-building among students. Dr. Amaladoss also took the opportunity to reflect on the college's achievements, including earning a B+ grade in its first NAAC assessment and excelling in academic and sports events at the Northeast Level, particularly among Salesian Institutions under Dibrugarh University. He reaffirmed the college’s commitment to holistic education, which blends academic excellence with values such as reason, love, and kindness. In a moment of great pride, Shri Atul Bora hoisted the College Flag, symbolizing unity and excellence. Students then participated in an Oath-Taking Ceremony, pledging their commitment to discipline and hard work. The lighting of the Sports Torch further ignited the spirit of sportsmanship, marking the official commencement of Sports Week. The event continued with a meticulously coordinated March Past, showcasing the discipline and teamwork of the students. Shri Atul Bora delivered a motivational speech, commending Don Bosco College for its dedication to education and youth empowerment. He encouraged students to view education as a gateway to success and to set ambitious goals despite challenges. He also underscored the importance of integrating sports and cultural activities into academics, emphasizing how they help build social skills, self-confidence, and resilience. Referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advocacy for physical well-being, Minister Bora highlighted the need for maintaining a balance between academics and sports. He also celebrated Assam’s sporting icons, including Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain, Lawn Bowler Nayanmoni Saikia, and cricketer Uma Chetri, inspiring students to strive for excellence in their respective fields. Additionally, he reiterated the Assam government’s commitment under Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to make sports more accessible and popular across the state through the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare. The cultural segment of the program was a vibrant showcase of Assam’s rich heritage. A mesmerizing Bihu Dance performance, along with other cultural presentations, highlighted the creativity and diversity of the students, adding a festive touch to the occasion. The event saw the presence of several notable figures, including Rev. Fr. Alaye, Vice Principal of Administration and Extracurricular Activities; Dr. Sr. Sheela Paul, Vice Principal of Academics; Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, IQAC Coordinator; Rev. Fr. Nazarius, SDB, former Vice Provincial; and Rev. Sr. Leema Sebastian MSMHC, Manager of Sacred Heart School. Their contributions added to the success of the celebration. Sr. Nitu Roy from the English Department expressed heartfelt gratitude to Shri Atul Bora for his inspiring speech and presence. She extended thanks to the esteemed guests, Salesians, faculty members, well-wishers, and collaborators for making the event a memorable one.
